Selected Achievements
 

Shared Service Center and System Implementations and Upgrades:

Transitioned the salaried executives and retiree payroll for nations 3rd largest employer to a Shared Service Center. This included a new process for issuing manual checks so that bank reconciliation's could be tracked each month as well as performance measures tracked for payroll group. These measures showed a 99.6% accuracy rate.
 
Created payroll shared service center that combined processes from seven western states increasing department size from 250 pays to 2500 pays. Once the shared service center was established the payroll cycle was converted from semi-monthly to the corporate bi-weekly pay cycle.

Assisted client in moving their payroll process from Salt Lake City, UT to Denver, CO. Process included training the new payroll consultants via phone and internet saving them $40,000.



Managed client from stand alone payroll processing in a shared service environment to multi-client processing, this included creating a transition plan for training, shadowing and cut-over dates. Worked closely with off-shore team to ensure seamless transition of processes.

 

Facilitated the coordination of PeopleSoft 8.9 upgrade to ensure all processes including off-cycle check processing, garnishments and executive compensation were implemented correctly. This ensured client did not miss payroll processing timelines and was able to deliver pay to their 120,000 employees.
 

Worked as liaison between client and outsourcing vendor to implement web-based payroll software including the programming of Time and Attendance, GTL calculations, benefit calculations, mapping of time codes to pay codes and general ledger set-up.

Designed requirements needed for payroll imaging program and worked directly with programmers to implement software program through user acceptance testing and creating training materials to be used for off-shore processing.

Completed four major acquisitions in seven months increasing the company's size by 50%. Provided a strategic review of company's previous mergers and acquisitions regarding federal, state and local tax compliance. This review saved the company over $1 million in tax penalties and interest.


 

Training and Compliance:

Managed the development and implementation of recruiting, employment and compensation programs for multiple payroll shared service centers. Maintained the staffing levels through employee training, leadership development and effective cross-training. Employee turn rates of less than 1% saving company significant training expense.
 

Drove Sarbanes-Oxley documentation with corporate auditor to ensure Key Controls were set for department. Interpret corporate level payroll policies and procedures for SOX compliance and internal audit controls. Implement and train field personnel on the new processes through Web seminars and conference calls.

 

Revised General Ledger to accrue corporate vacation hours, and directly map the pay codes posted by the field payroll clerks to the correct account numbers. This allowed for more accurate budgeting and cleaner payroll figures on the General Ledger.

 

Reconciled outstanding items on daily garnishment balance sheet that has aged greater than 600 days to no items greater than 30 days clearing over $70,000 in miss applied funds. Retrained garnishment team on how to post returned garnishment checks to accounting system.

 

Miscellaneous:

Modified existing excel spreadsheets that calculated annual Workers Compensation figures, this resulted in a company savings of $400,000.

 

Created management reporting tools for month-end economic drivers and quarterly Board of Directors documents for required SEC filings.

 

Produced PowerPoint presentation on cost savings of in-house mailing of payroll checks for company with 10,000 pays vs. having outside vendor ship via overnight carrier. Introduced vendors, current costs and company saving during presentation to CFO.

 

Designed Payroll team job descriptions and succession planning in effort to implement companies growth to centralized payroll and future Shared Service Center structure.

Overpayments, deceased payments, International payroll, temporary assignment payroll, special projects and working closely with our off-shore counterparts.
